Halton Farnworth Hornets are breaking new ground in Widnes by offering girls in school years 6 to 9 the chance to play competitive rugby league.

Headed up by HFH’s first Level 2 female coach, Becky McKeown, the team train at Halton Stadium on Wednesday/Thursday evenings and are in preparation for their first season which starts in March.

Becky commented “It’s a great opportunity to develop the sport for girls in Widnes. We have entered the team into the U14’s league which is aimed at girls in school years 8-9 but we also have players in years 6- 7 so we are looking to recruit in both age groups so we can launch a second team in the U12s league”.

Training moves up to the clubs base at Wilmere Lane in April, all training sessions, which focus on fun, skills and technique are run by qualified Level 2 coaches and all staff are DBS checked.

Any girls who would like to give Rugby League a try are welcome to attend any training session or Becky can be contacted on 07771 697088 or you can follow the team on Instagram @ hfh_girls
